Platform State

When necessary, Paradigm will communicate information about the platform state via UI banners, API, or Web-socket updates. The updates will include information about the estimated time of transition between different states.

Markets can only be in three market availability states:

  • AVAILABLE
    • Normal trading with no restrictions.
  • UNAVAILABLE
    • No actions are allowed in this state.
    • You will not be able to Create, Amend, or Cancel your orders.
  • AVAILABLE_CANCEL_ONLY
    • Creating and Amending of orders are not allowed in this state.
    • Order Cancellations are allowed.
    • You may retrieve information from the API via [GET] requests.

The sequence of platform state changes will always be:

1️⃣ Available → 2️⃣ Unavailable → 3️⃣ Available Cancel-Only → 1️⃣ Available

During platform maintenance, Paradigm may cancel open orders and quotes on users’ behalf, with reason Maintenance.

When the platform state is Unavailable, both UI and API users will not be able to cancel their orders on the platform. Users are reminded to cancel their orders before the platform goes into maintenance, or during the AVAILABLE_CANCEL_ONLY state.

Venue maintenance

Paradigm can also put a single venue into maintenance, for example during that venue’s own maintenance window. Other venues keep trading normally.

While a venue is under maintenance, as AVAILABLE_CANCEL_ONLY or UNAVAILABLE:

  • You will not be able to create RFQs, or create or amend orders and quotes, on that venue.
  • Order and quote cancellations are always allowed, in both states. This differs from platform-wide UNAVAILABLE.
  • You may retrieve information from the API via [GET] requests.

How you’ll know

  • UI: a banner lists the venues under maintenance, and order submission on those venues is disabled.
  • API / WebSocket: the platform_state response and channel include a venue_maintenance field that lists each venue under maintenance with its state. Requests rejected because of venue maintenance return error code 3007 (HTTP 503). See DRFQv2 platform_state and OB platform_state.

Once a venue is under maintenance, Paradigm may cancel resting orders and quotes on that venue, with reason Maintenance. You can also cancel them yourself at any time during the window.
